Voltage High Society technically meets the requirements to call itself a metroidvania, but it never truly captures the feeling the genre is known for. Progression follows a simple pattern: encounter an obstacle, find the item that removes it, return, and continue. The main issue is the level design, which feels like a single critical path. There are very few blocked areas encountered before obtaining the required item that aren’t part of the main progression, so there are rarely any satisfying moments of unlocking multiple new areas to explore. Voltage High Society is also divided into sections.
