S.A.N.D.Y. – Beach Cleaner gets you to clean up trash from the beach in this short, relaxing, and grim game! Recycle waste, upgrade your robot.

S.A.N.D.Y. – Beach Cleaner.Explore new territories. Clean up oil spills and save the animals! There is no more land left to bury the dead. Meanwhile, the planet is drowning in trash, car exhaust, and oil. Witness the strange happenings on the beach of a once-top resort. It’s short, but there’s enough variety that it never really gets repetitive, while still keeping that relaxing feeling as you clean the sand. There are a couple of minor bugs. If you don’t return the animals you rescue before finishing an area, they’ll disappear, which is a shame. There are also a few awkward camera angles during some cutscenes and at the end of S.A.N.D.Y. – Beach Cleaner.
If you’re a fan of *WALL-E*, you’ll probably like this too. You play as a little robot cleaning up a beach, rescuing cute animals like a duckling and a kitten as you go. At the same time, there’s a darker side to the world. You’ll come across some creepy things, including what looks like human remains in S.A.N.D.Y. – Beach Cleaner, which gives the game a nice contrast. There’s also a really sweet dream sequence where the robot imagines cleaning up a bright, lively beach. The music fits the art style really well and adds to the chilled-out atmosphere. Anyone who enjoyed the original demo will probably feel the same way about the full game.
It only takes around an hour and a half to finish, which felt like a good length. It leaves you wanting more rather than dragging on, and hopefully there’ll be more beaches and more little animals in future updates. The amount of cleaning is balanced well. Every beach has something new to find, but none of the areas overstay their welcome. It never reaches that point where you’re wondering how much is left, like can happen in games such as *PowerWash Simulator*. The game is also pretty forgiving if a few dirty spots get missed, so it doesn’t become frustrating trying to hit 100%.
The story and atmosphere ended up being better than expected. It isn’t all bright and cheerful. The world feels abandoned, and it’s heavily implied that humans are gone. Some of the things you collect are genuinely unsettling, with one item in particular standing out as especially creepy in S.A.N.D.Y. – Beach Cleaner. Those little discoveries kept things interesting without taking away from the relaxing gameplay. The robot is also full of personality. There aren’t many cutscenes, but the ones that are there do a good job of making the little robot feel genuinely likeable. It’s hard not to get attached by the end.
