Even failed runs contribute to long-term progression, so Demonherd Dungeon naturally snowballs as more upgrades are unlocked.

Early struggles eventually give way to clearing encounters much more quickly and efficiently. The dungeon is full of traps, but they rarely feel unfair in Demonherd Dungeon. Spike traps in the catacombs are visible, although somewhat difficult to spot. Looking closely at the floor reveals three gray dots on trapped tiles. Interactable objects such as barrels, coin purses, and pots can also trigger encounters.

Pots are especially noteworthy because they contain Shades, which are immune to physical attacks. Physical-focused characters must use a Mummy Hand to make them tangible before dealing damage, while magic-focused characters can defeat them normally at Demonherd Dungeon. If necessary, a torch can be used to scare them away, although relying on that strategy becomes expensive over time. Leveling may feel slow after repeated losses because most experience comes from defeating bosses and minibosses. Once runs become more consistent, experience gains increase dramatically and progression speeds up considerably.
